I have an USB scanner I bought a while ago. It is attached to my computer and it is working fine. Occasionally my wife has to scan pictures for herself. She works on her computer but when she has to do some scanning I have to do the scanning for her even though she could scan the pictures by herself - if the scanner was attached to her computer. ...

SpbBackup is my MVP (most valuable program) for PocketPC. To be more precise, a backup application (such as SpbBackup) is a must have for anybody using a PocketPC device.
What is good about it: it backups your data (entire data on PocketPC if you want to) doesn't require ActiveSync to do backups (that's history anyway) supports compression ...

When I talk with Apple enthusiasts they often question me why the heck I prefer crappy PC over super cool Apple computers. My main reasons are the freedom of choice, developer tools and the fact I can make money with PCs (update: read Windows).
Perhaps I will write more about the three reasons later, but for now, check out this article that ...

I have a VS 2005 solution with 19 projects. In total it consumes ~600MB of disk space (entire solution folder, including binaries). Needless to say that build times are relatively high. They are high even though my workstation has 4GB of RAM, RAID 0+1 7200rpm disks, 4GB ReadyBoost USB key and Core 2 Duo 6600.
The bottleneck in my situation is ...

Over the weekend I've built my new server - yes, the content you are reading right now is served from it. Perhaps more about this new server in another post. Back to the point. Host OS on the server is Windows 2003 R2 x32 and there is also a SQL Server 2005 running there. I've had x64 bit before but it is just too much trouble running it ...

Since I switched to gigabit network some months ago I often saw a lousy network performance against other computers in my local network. It wasn't enough annoying to actually investigate. However, one day I said: enough is enough. Time for an investigation even if I have to loose a day (which I lost).
So I equipped myself with ...

Recently I've increased my workstation RAM from 2GB to 4GB (all modules are CL4). Although I am running Vista Ultimate x86 and the available RAM increase is actually smaller than 2GB (Task Manager is reporting 3581MB of total RAM) due to x86 nature of OS the speed increase is quite nice. No, I haven't done any benchmarking or anything, I am ...

Intel has put its Matrix Storage driver, official production version 7.5.0.1017, online. Among other improvements, it is supposed to fix iTunes/QuickTime problems for good. I have to say: finally - it was about time! Hopefully this ends months long saga of destroyed RAID drives. I guess we'll soon find it out if the problem is fixed. As a ...

I finally contacted Microsoft support center about iTunes/Vista/Intel RAID situation (so far I managed to contact only Intel technical support - they said that this isn't a problem in their drivers). Rok, the Microsoft support guy, listened to me and after a couple of hours he found this article on Intel's website - a very ...

It all started to happen when I tried to convert a large video to iPod format within iTunes. Since the conversion takes time I left the computer for a while. When I returned I got "Unable to boot screen" because Vista x86 bluescreened. The frightening fact was that it couldn't boot even though I am on RAID 10 (controlled by Intel ...
